Parent's Report

Hi Monty,
Our family came back from Graz in July after completing their 3 week program. It sounds as though your daughter would benefit from the program too.  What is Tresilian?  What type of program?  I thought I had heard of most of the tube weaning and feeding programs in Oz?  I’d be interested in hearing about it.

The Graz program is the only program of its type in the world and is specially suited for tube fed and tube dependent children. They regard long term tube feeding as a disease (a disease of the mind because they become accustomed to the tube feeding and as you mentioned the children do not want to eat orally because they are always full up on the tube milk).  Your child does not have to be a specific weight to get in to the program. Interestingly more than half of the children that go to Graz are actually underweight despite being tube fed (our daughter wasn’t even on the growth charts!!).

You can complete the program in one of two ways – (1) via netcoaching OR (2) in Graz as an inpatient or outpatient with your entire family. There is funding to get you there if you decide to actually go to Graz and I can help you with this.  We received the funding to get to Graz and it was the best thing we have ever done. Our daughter was tube fed for 3 years and after our trip to Graz they had removed the tube and she has been eating and drinking ever since.

With the complexity and varying circumstances of each child and their family, you will need to send an e-mail to Marguerite (the leader of the Graz program) and she will be better able to advise you of what would work for your daughter. She will ask you some questions about your situation and then guide you (in the most amazing way!!) to help you get your daughter tube free.  There is no magic or tricks involved, just passion and dedication and 25 years experience.

Monty, please try not to push your daughter any further with her eating – it is a miracle she is eating something orally with all the tube milk and reflux, so for now just let her do what she wants with the food you offer, while she is being tube fed and you are working out a tube weaning strategy.

Good luck and all the best! Cheers Tash
